Q: Saturn ION???
I am thinking of buying an 07 Saturn ION as my commuter car to work. 40 miles each way. I need something that will be reliable and last an extremely long time and not be in the shop constantly. Any thoughts on the reliability of the ION and any other aspects?
A: If you're buying in from a reliability standpoint, I wouldn't. Long-
time reliability is not the ION's forte. As a matter of fact, nothing
besides low price makes this car stand out.
My suggestion would be a Honda Civic for the criteria that you're
considering. Better gas mileage, actually a lower cost-to-own
factor in the long run. Very reliable, very well-built. Excellent
resale value. Oh, and it's fun to drive as well.
Other choices would be the Toyota Corolla, Kia Spectra or
Optima, or Hyundai Sonata in the order of reliability and overal
cost-to-own factor.

Q: What is the difference between the Saturn ion sedan and the Saturn ion quade?
hello, i just purchased a 2005 saturn ion, how do i know whther is a sedan or a quade? what is the physcial dif?
A: The Quad has 2 "regular doors" on the front and the 2 back doors open "the other way" like some pick up trucks, and the front doors need to be open.
Hopefully I explained myself..
Q: How can i hook up an amp in a 03 saturn ion without changing the radio?
The cars orignal radio doesnt have the a/v outputs that the amp has. I dont want to lose my 6 disc cd player tho. It is a 1200 watt amp i am hookin up and the car is a 2003 saturn ion. I appreciate any help you can give.
A: buy an line out converter and how you hook it up is in the trunk splice into the wires that connect to your 6x9s of 6 1/2s or what ever you have in your rear deck and plug the audio cables into the line out converter and plug your av cables to the output of the converter and to the amp
Q: How do I save the custom treble and bass in my Saturn Ion?
I have a 2004 Saturn Ion-3 and it came without an owner's manual. I have figured out how to set the custom treble and bass settings, but I haven't figured out how to save them so that I don't have to reset them each time I start the car. Any ideas?
A: ask the dealer
Q: What are your thoughts on a 2004 Saturn Ion?
I am a college student, and my car recently got totaled in a hit-n-run accident. I am in desperate need to another car. I have about $6,000 to spend and would like a newer car (my previous car was a 2000). I was looking at a used 2004 Saturn Ion. I don't know much about them but I hear that the Ion is a bit better than most Saturns. Is this true? Does anybody have any advice for me or suggestions?
A: It is nowhere as good as the Saturns they are making today, but for 2004 it was the best they made. The Ion is basically a Chevy Cobalt, mechanically. The Cobalt is made with higher quality plastics, and is a much more conventional design. At Cars.com there are 2006 Cobalts for less than 6,000 Or you could get a 2002-'03 Impala for that much
Q: What kind of projector headlights will fit a 2005 saturn ion sedan if any available or if any other ones fit?
Im looking for projector headlights for a saturn ion 2005 but im not sure which will fit and if there is any available for this make?
A: zzzzzzzzzz
Q: My Saturn Ion won't turn on, all of the dashboard lights are on and it won't start. Any reason why?
It's a 2003 Saturn Ion with 46,000 miles. When I turn the ignition nothing happens, all the dashboard lights come on. Then the ignition gets stuck between the off and acc position and you have to push this little switch so that it goes in the off position. While in off, the dashboard lights are still on.
I've jumpstarted it but it wouldn't turn on...I'd hate to take it to the dealer..
A: It could be a low battery. A low battery could be the result of a couple of things, faulty battery or a bad alternator. It also could be a bad starter. When you turn the ignition, does it click? The way you can test to see if it's the alternator is to get a jump from someone (keep the car running), and take of the positive cable off the battery. If it continues to run, you have a faulty battery. If it doesn't, you have a faulty alternator. The alternator runs on a closed circuit and can keep the car running without the positive cable being connected.
If that doesn't yield anything useful to you, take it into the shop. It's likely to be a starter or ignition.
Regards,
Brandon
I've had a faulty batter where the dashboard lights would come on, dome light would come on, could honk the horn but it wouldn't turn over. I got it started and could take off the positive cable and it would keep running. Changed the battery and nothing has happened since.
Q: I have a 2003 saturn ion that is having problems?
My 2003 saturn ion keeps not starting. I have to let it sit for ten or more minuites and then it starts. Also I was driving down the highway, and the engine just shut off. All the lights were on but no engine power. When I started it back up after letting it sit for ten minutes, It started but I had the pedal to the floor and it was barely moving. The rpms were rising but the speed wasnt. I took it to the shop and they couldnt find anything wrong, but it still happens. Can anyone help?
A: 100% for sure it is the ignition switch. My brother had the same problem with his Saturn ion. Worse on cold days. The type of silicone in the anti theft switch in the ignition switch doesn't react well to cold weather. My brother used to have a lighter in his car and would heat his key for a few seconds and it would start every time he eventually did get the switch changed and Saturn did not pay for it but did give him some service coupons to use for later dates. It should be recalled but no one has died from this problem. Call the Saturn dealer and ask them about it the mechanic that changed my brothers said he does about 5 a week. Good money for them.

Q: How much weight can I tow with my Saturn Ion?
I am renting a 4 x 8-foot trailer (empty weight 680 lbs) from U-Haul to pull behind my 2006 Saturn Ion. I have 850 lbs of stuff to put into it. U-haul folks assure me this is fine. Saturn folks tell me no more than 1500 lbs (1300 is preferable) can be towed by my car. Has anyone done this or have any wisdom for me? Thanks. BTW, I will be taking I-10 from Florida to AZ up to Utah on I-15.
A: Hey, man. Go with what the Saturn folks tell you. They built the thing. Are you fishing to find an answer that you want? Be very careful. U-Haul rents trailers and don't care if you bust an axel or flip the whole rig or not.
Good luck. My 1992 Saturn was sold with 126,000 miles showing and at last report was still running! Good car when used for what it was designed for. It's no F150, but it's not even a truck. Are you hauling a boat or pots, pans, jeans, and t-shirts. Don't matter. A pound is a pound. To bring the total down to a weight you're comfortable with, ship the difference by UPS.
Q: Should I buy a 2003 Saturn ION or a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta?
Should I buy a 2003 Saturn ION or a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta? The ION is selling for roughly $10,000 and the Jetta for around $12,000. Both are used and in about the same condition. Which one should I get, and why?
A: Both nice cars, problem with the Jetta, very expensive to fix out of warranty.
Only way to get a VW is to buy new to have a warranty.
Q: Does anyone have an aftermarket radio in their Saturn Ion?
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion 2 and I'm trying to install an aftermarket radio, but no one knows what kind of wiring harness I'm supposed to use. I've installed steroes in vehicles before and never had this problem. I've talk to the so called professionals and they were no good. What kind of wiring harness should I have and where can I find it? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
A: Saturn is made by GM, and so it will make use of the same wiring harness as a Chevrolet or Pontiac.
If you buy an after market system, go to your nearest NAPA store or auto parts dealer and ask them for the stereo harness adapter or wiring kit for GM model cars.
Each wire is color coded and usually labelled to tell you what they are for (eg. FrntRghtSpkr, RearLeftSpkr, Ground, etc). There is also a website that another fellow posted here a few months back that helps you with the wiring diagrams if you don't have them labelled. I'll try to find it and post it below.
Q: Would it be stupid to get subwoofers for my Saturn Ion 2003?
I have a sporty saturn ion and I want subwoofers...first, would that be stupid to get for that kind of car?...and if i should get them what kind?
A: You definitely don't want to be that guy with a sound system that's worth more than the vehicle. But there's definitely nothing stupid about wanting some bass to your music as you ride. It definitely enhances the driving experience.
So if you just want to get something, and don't want to be too much of a fanatic with the price, or constant upgrading, I'd say a good place to start would be with 10 to 12". If you don't wanna break the bank, Audiobahn might be the best way to go. Kicker is also excellent. Look into the Comp 12s with a ZX 300 rms amp. That might be the best way to go if you don't want to go crazy with extra additions just to get the sound system to work.
A lot of it really depends on your budget and personality. I got my first subwoofers a few years ago by Alpine. I loved it for a few weeks until my boy showed me his set up with his JL Audio, amplifier, EQ, new speakers, etc. He was driving a Lexus truck though. So I would say there is something to be said about the car you're driving and the audio system in it. You don't want to be heard a quarter mile down the road while driving in a Scion or something.
Q: Will an 08 Focus S last over 200K like the 07 Saturn Ion 3 , warranties r exactly the same. Which is better
I am torn between these two cars. I know Saturn is know for longevity. Payments are exactly the same. The Saturn Ion 3 has 27k miles on it and the Focus S is brand new. Which will last longer?
A: If payments are exactly the same, obviously get the Focus. Its a new car, with nice technology inside of it with awesome MPG. The only thing that should deter you from getting the saturn is insurance. But I dont see any real difference since its only 1 year.
Get the new Focus....plus YOU are the first owner and know how the car will be treated. You can never know on a used car how they drove it.
PS: For an extra $800, I would upgrade to the SE. You get power windows, locks, mirrors, remote entry.
Good Luck!
Q: Saturn Ion rack and pinion, difficult to change?
I am not a certified mechanic, but I am not an idiot, so has anybody ever changed out the power rack and pinion on a 2003 Saturn Ion? Any probluems I might have or special tools I might need? The dealer wants $1000.00 to do it, but I can get the part for $400! So I am going to do it myslef! Any comments or suggestions?
A: You are taking a big risk doing this repair without any training. You may end up messing something else up and causing more problems. Tell the repair shop that you want to provide your own parts. That will save you money since the shop has a huge mark up on parts. This repair is best left to trained mechanics.
