Q: How reliable would a 1998 Saturn SC2 be?
I am looking to purchase this kind of car with low mileage and at a decent price. We dont have much money so we have to be careful what we spend our money on. Would it be a waste of money or a smart choice? Someone said they are expensive to fix and always break down. Is this true?

A: i have heard good things about the Saturn cars.but like any other car, they have bad ones too.do your home work, and really look at the different styles of Saturn's that are out there.over all,i have heard good things about them.

Q: can the ignition module on my 1998 saturn sc2 cause my starter to quit working?
it all started when i bought the car it worked perfectly for 3 months until one day i was driving it and it wouldn't start.so i toke my starter off and had it tested. its perfect. that rules out the starter and solenoid. the auto zone rep. said it was my ignition module.

A: probably your neutral safety switch is bad

Q: my 1998 saturn sc2 is running hot! my husband replaced the t-stat and its still running hot?
my 1998 saturn has always ran hot at red lights and drive thrus sinse i got it 5 years ago. but now its running very hot all the time and my husband changed the thermostat and that didnt help so what else could it be

A: make sure all the air is out of the system.take the cap off let the car run to temp with heater on high with the fan running, let it burp the air out.also make sure the fans are cycling properly.

Q: I have a saturn sc2 1998, my passengfer car window is stuck closed, how can i get it to open again?

A: It's better stuck closed instead of open. Thump the middle inside door panel with your fist as you actuate the down button. You may need a new motor installed for about $300 total cost.

Q: what type of coolant does a 1998 saturn sc2 take?

A: LOL dont listen to the other responces. Look at your cap and it will say special coolant. By this it means the orange coolant. But one thing they do have right is that you need to mix it 50/50. Remember Saturn is part of general motors so pick up some haveling DEX-Cool or anything really that says DEX-Cool

Q: what size front speakers does a 1998 Saturn SC2 coupe have?

A: Your car has 6.5 inch speakers front and rear.

Q: How do I repair a gear shift on a 98 Saturn SC2 that is always stuck in park?
I have an automatic 1998 Saturn SC2 that repeatedly (usually in the mornings) remains stuck in park. I have my brake pressed, my gear button doesn't appear to be stuck, and I don't have any problems starting the car. Once I actually get out of park, I have no problem shifting in between gears. I'm not exactly sure what would cause this to happen, but I would love to know what I can do to repair this. Do you all have any idea or experience with this issue?

A: sounds like you are parking on a hill. before you put the car into park, apply emergency brake, then put it in park. it's not a problem with the gear shift, it's your transmission straining against the weight of the vehicle. basically, the transmission is trying to turn against the gears while it's in park.

Q: saturn sc2 has grinding going in 4?
i have a saturn sc2 1998 with many mods. i just bought the car 1 yr ago had to replace slave because of hard shifting , but now im lookin into the problem of GRINDING in 4 th gear but the grinding is only when shifting from 3rd to 4th i think the trans is bad what do you all think

A: The 3-4 synchro could be going bad. Put some Lucus Oil trans fluid in it and see if it improves.

Q: How much to install an aftermarket head unit?
Hey, everyone! Just wondering how much it will set me back to install an aftermarket head unit. I drive a 1998 Saturn SC2. I will need: an in-dash thingy (LOL), wiring harness and an adapter/antenna. All that for $95.00. Is that a rip off? LOL! I am unable to install it all myself, so I am getting it professionally done! THANKS A LOT!

A: depneding on the harness they are giving you....my 2002 cavalier needed a $60 harness (class II data bus) because if you remove the factory radio, you loose you gauge functions and some other stuff cause they run through the radio. the class II data bus allows you to by pass the factoty radio w/o these issues. being a 1998, not sure if thats when that started to do it. different GM models started in different years. i'm willing to bet why thats so high.

Q: 20 in rims on a saturn?
Can you put 20 inch rims on a 1998 saturn sc2 im actually only putting 18's on it i was just wondering if it could fit 20's

A: what are the sizes recomended? look on your driver side door or in your manual. If you want to use 20's you would be looking at a 40 or 30 tire like a 185 or less/30/20 not only expensive but does not have much rubber. Try using 18's even those a pretty big but are more reasonable on your size of vehicle.

Q: Is 176,000 miles a lot for a car I'm buying?
Im trying to buy a 1998 Saturn SC2, and everything runs great on the car, it has no problems, but it has 176,000 miles on it, should I be worried about this?

A: It's a ten-year-old car which means it has averaged 17,600 miles per year. The timing belt should be replaced every 75,000 miles which means it shoul have had two installed by now. If a reputable mechanic checks it for basic safety items (brakes, lights, etc.) and the compression check is good, I see no problem with it if the price is right. While the mechanic is looking at it, have him check the suspension and ALL the rubber parts. They tend to need replacement at 10-12 years.

Q: engine swap help??
i am getting an engine swap but i cant figure out what kind of engine will fit in my car. i want to get a more performance stock engine. does anyone know?? i have a 1998 saturn sc2.

A: I think you would have gotten a greater response had this been placed in a better section cause this is Honda and you're talking about a Saturn.

Q: my car wont start, just makes a single clicking noise when i try to start it. the engine poesnt make a sound?
not the starter because for the past few days it would start, i would just have to mess with it for a minute, and i hear if the starter was bad it wouldnt work at all. either it works or it dont. the car is a 1998 saturn sc2. any 1 help? battery been tested, and is charged. something electrical im thinkin. hoping to be an easy repair, done by myself with some knowledge its not the battery i know for a fact. already cleaned it. not the problem

A: Remove and clean all your battery cable ends (both ends). Remove the negative cable from the battery first, and put it back on last. If you're saying it started after trying the key multiple times, and still does it after checking your cables, I'd suspect the starter solenoid contacts are burnt in some spots. It rotates every time you energize it, and will hit a good spot sooner or later. You can replace that separate from the starter on most cars. What kind btw?

Q: My cars bugging out!?
I have a 1998 saturn SC2 with 132k so when im stopped like at a drive throught or something or stoplight, the rpms shoot from around 1k(the cars normal) up to around 2.5k and then can drop down to around 500, ive put the car in neutral, reverse and park and it does that, sometimes it doesnt do it and i dont notice it but when it does it freaks me out. I just bought the car on monday from my grandfather. The service engine light wasn't on, and he told me if it comes on don't freak out, just put gas in it and it goes off, he never mentioned anything about this. What does that mean? I AM going on a road trip next friday! lol, 7 and a half hours one way so i was trying to get suggestions from everyone, thanks!

A: throttle postion sensor could be bad. It could need new puugs and wires. Easiest way to find out for sure is take it to a ASE certified shop and have the computer read for errors. Then you will know for sure what is wrong and you can repair the problems and be ready for a road trip :)
