Q: How much should replacing a catayltic converter cost for a 1996 Saturn SL2?
The engine was replaced a week ago after blowning up the previous. The mechanic stated that the converter MAY have residual oil and to try and blow it out by driving it. The check engine light pulses and according to the manual, its an exhuast problem. I would take it back to the mechanic that replaced the engine but that is 500 miles away.

A: i have done this on a 1994 and right in the front corner of the door on the inside should be a black panel pop off that panel and the nuts that hold the mirror on will be right there

I felt my stick shifter got hard today when driving it. I dont have to much money to fix it . I also dont want to take it to any mechanic and give me false statements on car problems. I want to have and idea before i take it to a shop. i dont want to get extra charged. I cant check transmission because its under the car. They say i got to take it to the shop. If any body could please help me and give me some advice or tips please. Thank You very much.
A: your pressure plate probably isnt disengaging the clutch anymore. you will need a new clutch very soon. make sure when you buy a new clutch, you buy a clutch PACK. with the friction disc, throwout bearing, and pressure plate. remember, when it comes to parts, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. buy the parts, THEN take it to a tranny shop. transmission shops will RAPE you. because transmissions are very complicated, and most americans only take the time to learn how the pedals work. tell them what you want done, do NOT get a free diagnostic, and check on your car (in person) every few hours. treat them like dogs, or you WILL get ripped off. information is power. it could also be your shift linkage since thats a fwd vehicle. have three different people look at it, but do not tell them what the previous diagnosis was. let them all take it without a clue of whats going on. if they wont offer a free diagnosis, they should be shut down

A: To clean battery and check connections, test battery,check intake and exhaust manifold mounting nuts/bolts, tighten to specs, check engine compression, replace spark plugs, test resistance of spark plugs, test resistance of spark plug cables, replace as required, inspect distributor cap and rotor, if equipped, check vacuum advance operation, check base ignition timing and idle speed, service air cleaner element, inspect crankcaes ventilation system and emission controls inspect and adjust all drive belts should take about 1.7 hrs. also depends on what size engine you have. You would have to price your plugs and wires, sometimes if you buy your own parts it is alot cheaper, i would estimate around $175.00 to $200.00

HI, This moring I was about to leave to go to the gym, when I used my keyless remote to try to get in the car it wouldn't work. I got in the car by using my keys but my engine wouldn't start. I though it might be the battery so I went to Pep Boys to have it checked out - they said it was a good battery. I'm not sure whats wrong with it. When I turn the key all the lights on my car start flashing but it won't turn all the way. Please help, thanks

A: There is no connection to the battery in your keyfob and your car starting. The car may act up again in the future, I would be looking for a bad connection on battery cables.

A: the onus of "100,000 miles it's dead" is over. newer cars can go 150k and more. if the maint records are good and you have had it checked by a reputable tech why not. the few recalls were mostly minor and the headgasket problem was addressed in them. if done--no problem. drive safe.

It's an automatic.
A: Before you have your transmission rebuilt and it will more then likely be 1400 plus. Ask yourself these questions. Has it been a good car, do you want to keep it and etc.

get back into the car and try to start it up it will not start the lights radio everything seems to work it just dont make a sound then all of a sudden it just catch, what do you think this maybe? the cars runs fine other than that, I see that the car lights come on every time i start the car. Is it some special stricts about it.
A: it is possible that the ( i dunno how to speel it) cylenoid in your starter is going bad, next time it wont start go under your car and tap it with a hammer and see if it fires up right away.. you can get a starter at a junk yard for that car for like 25.00-30.00
Q: wiring color code for a 1996 saturn sl2, trying to hook up dual receiver, model # xd6320?
im trying to hook up a dual receiver model # xd6320 to a 96 saturn sl2 and i got it to turn on, but it won;t hold my presets(memory), and when i turn the car on it won't turn on unless i push the power button.
A: if you bought the harness for you car the make sure that both yellow wires(one from the car harness you bought and the other from the back of the dual) and red wires(again from the car harness and the radio harness) are hooked up correctly to each other.
if you just hard wired the dual harness into your factory wiring, check to make sure you're getting a constant 12V with the key off, you'll of course need a multi meter and only one wire will be getting the 12V make sure they're hooked up correctly. check your switched also, you'll need the key on or in acc for this, this wire will also now have 12V but it won't be the same as the constant 12V wire. when you find what you think is the switched, keep the mulitmeter on it and turn the key off if the 12V disappears, this is your switched. if it's not holding presets and you have to turn it on every time you get in your car, it sound like a power issue. very rarely though people do get a hold of a bad unit. good luck to you.

A: I think that it alters the behaviour of your gearbox for different driving experience. In norm setting the gearchanges are fairly early for comfort and economy. In perf mode the gears will be changed at higher revs so that the car behaves more sportily.

My horn went out in my saturn and we can't find it, went through all the fuses, but they were fine, any ideas out there.
A: You are going to have to remove the L/F headlamp assembly in order to access the horn.
Note: There is a recall covering 1996 and some 1997 SL2 horns. Call the dealer and see if your vehicle is covered.

Q: 1996 Saturn Sl2 coolant leak?
I do not smell it so it is not the heater core i have checked all of the hoses none of them are wet. it is leaking like right below the passenger side motormount, maybe a little closer to the nose, but it is dripping off the fram and above the frame is just plastic. checked the coolant level and it says it is full. i have read alot of things about the head being cracked does this sound like my problem?
A: that is right about where your water pump is you should have a sticker for belt routing under your hood if you follow it it will shaow you exactly where but if you look behind the front passenger side wheel and to the front a little its right there

A: The service light for engine oil replacement has a reset button in the fuse box under the hood. You press it and it stays off until the next interval. Look in owners manual for it too.
