Q: How many quarts of trans oil, should i drop into a 1999 Saturn SL2 (autotrans)?
I am not 100% sure where the filter is. Is the filter a "twist" on type filter similar to an oil filter?
How many quarts need to be re-added after draining?
A: The Saturns have a twist off trans filter that is located on the front of the transmission, when you drain the fluid you can measure it to put it all back in. But all I usually do is add about 3 quarts then start the engine check the filter for leaks and then check the trans level and add as needed.
Q: How much should I expect to pay for a front end alignment on a 1999 Saturn SL2 near Baltimore and Washington?
A: Certainly no more than $80, even for FWD cars.
Just make sure you get the right kind. There's 2-wheel, thrust-line, and 4-wheel. As yours is FWD, you may have to pay a little more to get the middle one.
Q: 1999 Saturn SL2 Instrument Panel Problems?
I am having a problem with my instrument panel. This has happened a few times and then it goes back to normal after a few seconds. When I am driving early in the morning & its cold out the brake light will come on, the rpm will go to 0, and the mph will go to 0. Then it will correct itself. I think my battery may be trying to die because when its really cold it is slow to start but would this make my instrument panel go nuts? It not what could it be?
A: a bad ground wire will also cause this to happen i have seen it a lot on Saturn's and other gm products, i own a truck that will do it and i know its a ground wire,i keep re-tightening it up and its ok for a while,have someone look in under the dash and tighten the main ground up for the dash unit it grounds to the steering column and then the column grounds to the body which grounds to the main chassis,good luck with it.
Q: Help!! 1999 Saturn SL2 runs really bad at first. No fuel filter!! What is it?
I have a 1999 Saturn SL2. Its starts off really bad, even dies frequently until warmed up. I can have the gas all the way down, barely stays alive, then engine roars, engine dies. Once its warmed up, not so much a problem. Turn it off for a few mins., return, dies alot again. i thought it might be a fuel filter, but I cant find one anywhere. Any suggestions?
A: The fuel filter is located on the underbody at the forward edge of the left-side of the fuel tank.
Ps fuel filters should be changed around 30,000 miles, especially since they are so easy to change. It's better than waiting for your pump to go out. But I agree that it doesn't sound like a fuel problem.

I have replaced the front brakes and rotors, and still have the same problem.
A: sounds too me like the kind of material that the pads are made out of. or it could just be the maker of the pad

A: You have to poke the push-pin retainers on each side of HVAC/Radio Cover. Make sure you don't poke them all the way through. Here are some links for you to look at:

That part of the dash didn't change until the 2000 model year, but the '99s were the first Saturn S Series cars to have standard DIN radios. Again, good luck.

cant seem to find the gears in time causes it to rev high when i push the gas but the car is not moving at the speed it should. when i brake the rpms go up higher before falling back down, im thinking, maybe the tran is slipping???

I have a 1999 Saturn SL2 that loses radiator fluid and the heater doesn't heat up. I cant find where the water is leaving the system and it will go from cool (which will be steady for a while) to hot fast. I just changed the thermostat and the problem hasn't changed. How can I find what going on?
A: it is coming out somewhere. if its not on the ground then its going into the crank case or its going into the combustion chamber. over heating fast is a sign of possible headgasket

Q: Bad Car Battery? (1999 Saturn SL2)?
I have a 1999 Saturn SL2 that I purchased used about 4.5 years ago. During that time I have not replaced the battery. Earlier today when I went to leave work my car would not start and the electric system "flickered". (no turnover, just a clicking sound with the lights blinking). I got someone to help jump start the car and made my way home. I was hoping (rather stupidly) that simply charging the battery would take care of the problem. However, after arriving home and waiting for a half hour I tried the car and found the situation was the same as before; it wouldn't start. Also, FYI while driving home the Battery light was not on which leads me to believe that this is a battery issue and not an alternator one.
My question is: Am I right in assuming my battery just decided to die today? I'm a little concerned I might have some other issue since it seemed to happen out of nowhere.
A: The alternator charges the battery while the engine is running. It seems that its your battery beacuse it cant hold a charge. Its not your starter beacuse jumping it off temporarely fixed your problem. Just go to a parts store and spend $50 on a battery. They can also check your alternator if you want to be super sure
