Q: I have a 2000 Saturn sl2 & coolant is spewing from the side of the motor. Is it a manifold something?
My low coolant light came on and my car started smoking. I took it to the shop & they're telling me $750 @ best. I don't know if it should cost that much. I've been searching the internet & I've come across a part called an intake manifold gasket. If this is the case is my motor really blown & they don't want to tell me for whatever reasons?
A: when you say from the side of the motor are you talking about the motor side or the car's side
i would take a small mirror on the side and watch where the water is coming out from if it is the intake manifold this is usually about a $250-$800 repair depending on who does it and where they get the part but I would look first to verify it is the manifold because you might find it to be a hose or something similar between the engine and firewall or between the radator and engine depending on which side of the motor it is coming out of if it is coming out of the "front" of the motor or the passenger side of the car it may be the water pump or the "rear top" drivers side of the car it may be the thermostat
Q: 2000 Saturn SL2 has high idle. How do I adjust it back to normal?
I was teaching my daughter how to drive a car with a manual transmission. She had a number of jerky starts. After stalling one time, the car began to idle high (2100 rpm). It seems to drive OK otherwise. Any idea what may have gone wrong? do I just need to adjust the idle?
A: CHECK YOUR AIR FILTER AND VERIFY NO TROUBLE CODES HAVE POOPED UP FIRST. IF SO, READ THEM AND CORRECT FOR THEM.
OTHERWISE POSSIBLY THEJERKING OF THE CAR SHOOK THE THROTTLE CABLE SOMEHOW. EXAMINE IT FOR SLACK WHERE IT ENTERS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY (TBA). WITHOUT THE ENGINE ON, HAVE SOMEONE STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR SEVERAL TIMES AND CHECK IT AT THE TBA FOR SMOOTH OPERATION AND RETURN. LUBE IF NECESSARY. IF THAT DOESN'T WORK, SET THE IDLE SCREW TO A LOWER POSITION AT THE TBA.
HOWEVER, SHE MAY FIND IT EASIER TO ENGAGE 1ST GEAR WITH A HIGH IDLE TO GET USED TO DRIVING WITHOUT STALLING.
Q: 2000 Saturn SL2 service engine lights on and engine problem?
Hello i have the 2000 saturn sl2 and having problem first the service engine lights on and also when im driving or if i do reverse the engine will go dead, the engine sounds like its choking and i took it to autozone and check whats going on,they said probably the cam sensor or timing belt, is this really the cause why my engines sometimes goes dead?and how much and where is the best i can take my car? Please help me whats really going on to my car.
how do i change the cam sensor is it easy for me to do?where i can locate that into my car pls help me
A: the problem could be caused by those to things. Is it an automatic or standard (manual) transmission? if it is an automatic then the problem could be a bad torque converter. also check your spark plugs and your intake system. it could e the mass air flow sensor or another sensor sending the wrong airfuel ratio to your engine resulting in a loss of power to the point your engine stalls out under a load. it could really be a number of things my suggestion is to take it to a local shop or a saturn dealer if you can afford it.
Q: 2000 Saturn SL2 has high RPMs on idle?
I have a 2000 Saturn SL2 (74,000 miles) if i drive the car for a while and then park and leave it on, it goes to 2000 rpms and stays there until I turn the car off. I had the throttle body cleaned but this is still happening. The check engine light is not on.
What could be causing this to happen?
A: A vacuum leak will cause high RPMs
Q: I have a 2000 saturn sl2 it suddenly started running hotter than normal.?
we changed to fan motor, relay switch the coolant the sensor. What else could it be
HELP
YWe also changed the thermosstat.....if there is a seal lead wouldn't something be leaking from my motor?
the radiator has also been replaced a few months back
A: The most common things on Saturns to go bad is the water pump. I would get ahold of a coolant pressure tester, pump the system up to 16-18 lbs and walk away for an hour. Come back and see if you see any drips of coolant on the ground. Most cars are very obvious as to where the leak is but I have noticed on the Saturns, the leak is so minute, it takes forever to show, hence the hour.
Q: how can i find the fuel vapor vaacuum hose on a 2000 saturn sl2?
I flunked the emission test,i suspect a vacuum hose that caries the fuel vapors to the engine for combustion. Any ideas? I thought i smelled gas fumes the other day. The code they gave me was "PO442"
A: i own a shop, and its the larger one that goes to the fuel canister, there is a sensor it connects to ,and that was probably what caused your trouble code, these are common to go bad,and real easy to replace also, and cost wise there not very expensive at all,but id say that's what caused you to fail the test, have it replaced ,and clear the trouble code off of it,and it should be ready to pass the test, advance or auto zone can get your sensor for it,and they can also clear the trouble code off of it also, good luck with it.
Q: 2000 Saturn SL2 - Reverse problems (lags)?
I have a 2000 Saturn SL2. All gears except reverse work perfect. When I put the car into reverse, it takes a moment (usually 2-5 seconds) for the reverse gear to catch and for the car to start moving. If I rev the engine a little bit (around 1000 rpm) the reverse gear will engage. Can anyone help me solve this problem. It is bad when I forget and I go zooming out of my driveway because I am at about 2000 rpm and all of the sudden the reverse gear catches. Startling experience! Anyway, if somebody could help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!
A: It could one of a few things but they are all internal transmission issues. 1. The pump is loosing prime after the engine is shut off. 2. The electronic solenoid is hanging up. 3. The reverse valve is hanging up. 4. There is a bad seal in the transmission hydraulic circuit. Some of these are not seriously expensive to repair, others are. I would recommend letting the car lock into reverse before you try to accelerate. You could cause damage to the transmission if you don't. You may want to take it to a reputable repair shop and have it checked.
Q: what is the bolt pattern for a 2000 saturn sl2?
A: 4.5
Q: 2000 Saturn SL2 Problem, sometimes the engine went dead?
Hello im having problem with my saturn sl2, when im driving and if i stop on traffic light the engine went dead. What could be possibly wrong with it.And it smells something on my muffler. Can anyone give me idead whats wrong with it?I dont wanna bring it to firestone
And if i just start my engine its like the engine get roughly run its like choking or something pls help me whats wrong
A: Did it start right back up, but idle roughly? May be the dreaded "vacuum leak"
Didn't start back up at all, it will take a lot of investigation.
The smell from your "muffler"...from the exhaust tailpipe? You may be smelling combustion byproducts, like carbon monoxide, or raw gas if it got flooded.
Q: Dummy lights on a 2000 Saturn SL2?
just yesterday, the service light (not the check engine light) and the emergency break light lit up together.
i did not have the emergency break engaged though, and the car doesnt run any differently, i cannot detect any changes from the day before. question is, are the dummy lights telling me to have the emergency break serviced?
could it be that the light turned on because the dummy light sensor is not sensing that the emergency break is off?
any suggestions? I really dont have the cash to take it in.
A: your Saturn is indeed trying to tell you to have the brakes serviced.this is not something that can be put off for a very long amount of time . ask a friend or relative to help you if you don't have the cash.the parts themselves are not terribly expensive...
Q: can i change my own headlight on a 2000 Saturn SL2 or do i have 2 take it 2 the dealer?
A: It is not a difficult task. Just need to open the hood to gain access to the back side of the headlamp assembly. Most light sockets can be freed with a quarter-turn twist. Once the socket if freed up, just a matter of pulling out the old bulb and putting in the new one. Just remember not to touch the glass of the bulb on the new replacement with your fingers; use a clean cloth or shop rag...the oil in human fingertips has a tendency to erode the glass shell of the bulb in many halogen lamps and will shorten the lifespan of the bulb.
Q: I was wondering where the coolant temp sensor is on a saturn sl2??? can anyone tell me in detail?
My 2000 Saturn SL2 temp gauge continues to go all the way up but the car never overheats and I have changed the thermostat and that did not fix the problem. I purchased a coolant temp sensor because someone told me that is probably what it was but I cannot locate where this is can anyone tell me where it is in detail. Thank You
A: should be located on rear of cylinder head, were it meets transmission, theres the coolant tempsensor wich sends info to the computer and theres the sending unit wich sends info to the gauge on the dash.
Q: average price for a 2000 saturn SL2 air compressor? average labor charge?
dealership says $1300 parts and labor,
friends say shouldnt be more than $500
what is your opinion?
A: The dealer will always charge more as they "specialize" in this repair. Try Auto Zone and other part stores for the price of the part. Labor is based on the amount of time they "estimate" (rounded up to next hour) it will take. If you are handy and mechanically inclined try it yourself. If not try the auto parts stores and see if there is a shade-tree mechanic near you who charges less but is very reputable. These guys are usually less than the dealer. Good Luck

Q: 2000 Saturn SL2 Problem?
My car has 105,000 miles and up to this point I have had no problems with it. Recently it has started acting up. When the car is put into reverse from idle it takes a min to start to back up and then it Jerks when it does. This only happens in reverse and I only notice when the car has been running for awhile. It does not happen when the car is first started and put into reverse. Does anyone know what this could be and how I can fix it before it becomes worse? I am thinking the transmission but I am not sure. I am not car-smart lol
A: check the transmission fluid with the engine warm and the vehicle in park. Make sure that it is at the proper level and that it is a nice cherry color and does not smell burned. If it is dark brown and smells bad then you have an internal transmission problem...probably a reverse piston seal. that will require an overhaul. if the fluid is low but otherwise ok, top it off to the proper level...do NOT overfill it. that is just as bad as underfilling. keep in mind that your transmission should be flushed and refilled every 30000 miles.
