Q: How much would new rear bearings for 2004 Saturn VUE cost?
I have a 2004 VUE, and the last couple weeks I've been hearing a roaring noise coming from the rear right wheel. It has gotten louder the last day or so. One person told me it might be the bearings, and that it's a easy thing to have fixed. I'm taking it to the mechanic on Friday. Anyone have an idea how much this might cost?

Now here is what you do if you get a shop to do it. Get estimates from everyone. Then go by brake check and get an estimate. Now the trick is is to get on the computer for the brake check in your city, if you have one. They have a calendar there where you can schedule your vehicle for putting in new bearings. If you will notice, on certain days, they have up to 30% on some locations at different times and days. You might call and ask what the percent off covers. Is it parts or labor or both. But seems a good deal.
Otherwise, buy a hayes repair manual for about $20 or so. Bearings are one of the few things that are EASY to put in.
Now you can go to one of those back yard mechanics who can do it real cheap. BUT you tell them that you could do it, but you hurt your back and it hurs to even jack up the car. Tell him that you want to watch to make sure he packs the bearing right (manually puts grease in the bearing by hand) and does the job right. You might get a cheaper price. This job is like taking the spark plugs off. The going rate for changing spark plugs or changing a bearing is still like $55 an hour. So difficulty is not the factor here, but the big$$$ you will pay.
$5 for gas to drive it to the mechanic. $180 for the parts and tax included, and the look on your face when the mechanic hands you the $299 labor bill, priceless. lol
You know it could be the rear end but I think you have a front wheel drive engine. Anyway, labor I AM GUESSING will be about $80.

A: Just like any other cruise control. Get to desired speed push button. But, when you push in clutch it will disengage cruise.

*Edit - air bag never deployed. Replacing it because the horn (broken, deformed membrane) is part of the air bag component.

A: You take the thing to a garage that is qualified to service air bags. If you are in an accident and the air bag fails not only will you suffer the consequences of your shortsighted attempt to save money but your insurance will not cover any personal injury that you may suffer.

*The horn burnt out. The membrane in the air bag component got stuck and the horn blared for 15 minutes straight. It is dead as a door nail. Replacing the air bag is a whole different story.
A: unhook the wire, unscrew the horn from its mounting
reinstall the new horn, reattach the wire.
Whats wrong with the horn? Are you just guessing that it needs replacing, did you check to see if the fuse is out for it? do you get 12v at the horn wire when you press the horn button?

A: The 2004 Saturn Vue most likely has a sealed transmission. GM has been moving towards sealed transmissions since the early 2000s.
The only way to add transmission fluid is through a bolt along the transmission. Similar to what you would seen in manual transmissions. The car must be level and the fluid is suppose to be warm.
Honestly, it's easier to simply have a mechanic add the fluid.

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue; 4 Cylinder engine. the Check engine light keeps coming on and off. I had the state emissions done on it and there was no code stored in the computer system. it has 52,000 miles. I don't want to pay a mechanic $85 and hour to tell me that the gas cap is broken. Any ideas? thanks!!!
The car is not numder warranty anymore. 3 years, 36,000 miles.

A: When the light is on, go to a parts store, and ask to borrow a code reader. Then read the code and locate the problem.
If that does not work, your car computer may be malfunctioning. It is not hard to replace.
Isn't the car under warranty? Take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it if it is.

A: Thats NORMAL for all `96 and newer cars. It`s the 96 and newer OBD_II computer system

A: In today's cars you are taking a big chance in jumping a car battery. If you short out your connection when hooking up the cables and blow out the computers.. it could cost $500 to $1000 to repair. Is that worth the chance for you? The pros do not recommend jumping a battery in the cars.
Q: 2004 Saturn Vue Ran out of gas and now it won't start.?
My 2004 Saturn Vue ran out of gas on the road. We put a couple of gallons of gas in and tried to restart it and now it just makes a metal clanging noise (unmechanically speaking, it sounds like a pump or something). My check engine soon light flashes as it makes this sound and it makes my lights flicker. It then appears as if my battery is dead (electric locks won't work) until I remove the key and reinsert it. Then lights and electric locks work fine. Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this? I need to drive somewhere tomorrow and have no other transportation. thank you!
A: Have you checked the fuel filter? You may've sucked sludge into the fuel line when you ran out of gas and it could've clogged the filter. That would explain it not starting, but not the "clanging noise." The battery drain could be from repeatedly trying to start the engine unsuccessfully.
I'd try the fuel filter first, it's a likely result of running out of gas and easily fixed.

A: Do not listen to AL he is incorrect. it is actually part of your servicing to keep warranties on vehicles. you are expected to change it every 30k miles. The reason why you change it is you fuel pump sends tiny metal shaving from normal operation through your fuel lines and it prevents fuel injector issues. also it does catch inpurities and trash from gas tanks/station tanks. If you wait till it clogs up you risk having to replacce your fuel pump. after 30k miles enough stuff has been filtered to where your fuel pump works harder to get the gas to the engine. If any vehicle has a servicable fuel filter its supposed to be changed at the 30k servie interval. your is located on the side of your gas tank and costs about 25 dollars. Replace it if your over 30k miles.

A: Yes this is ture. Honda Engines are found in Saturn Vues but thats about it. The rest is American. So the engine will be more reliable but the rest will depend on how well but the Americans made that car.
